The MIDI Gater is the smoothest way to clean up your MIDI data. It can eliminate mouse clicks, automation waveforms, and unwanted notes. The MIDI Gater is polyphonic. That means you get audio for each MIDI note. So you can have a separate audio signal for each click, for example, or for each note of a chord. These signals can be adjusted independently of each other. If you click a mouse button and then release it, the volume of audio produced for the click remains high. If you release the button and then click again, a new audio waveform is generated.
MIDI Gater Release Notes:
MIDI Gater is a “polyphonic” MIDI filter. That means that for every MIDI note there is a separate audio signal. This audio signal remains active as long as you hold down the note. When you release the note, the audio signal is silenced. The gater makes it easier to clean up your MIDI data. MIDI data has to be clean to work with hardware and software MIDI applications, like the Apple Soundboard.
MIDI Gater is not a MIDI EQ. You can adjust the audio gain of the MIDI notes independently of the MIDI gain. You can’t adjust the gain of the MIDI audio signal independently of the MIDI gain.
Where does the MIDI Gater get its audio from?
When you play a note on a MIDI instrument, it sends audio data to the MIDI Gater. The MIDI Gater then makes copies of that data and adds it to a virtual mixer. When you release the note, MIDI Gater strips the copy of the audio out of the virtual mixer, and it is free to be added to the master audio signal.
The MIDI Gater gives you much more control over the audio than MIDI synths or sequencers. You can adjust the gain of MIDI notes independently of the gain of the audio signal. You can have MIDI audio signals running for individual notes or even for individual time segments of a longer note.
MIDI Gater vs. MIDI Slave
MIDI Gater is polyphonic. It creates a copy of your MIDI signal for every note. It works like MIDI Slave except that it has a virtual mixer and that you can adjust the volume of audio for each note independently of the other notes. MIDI Gater is very fast. You can produce music at full volume even if you only have two notes at maximum volume.
MIDI Slave is not polyphonic. It
